External USB CD Drive vs. Internal CD Drive

Are there pros and cons to choosing one over the other? My slim CD drive (I have a laptop) doesn't burn discs without errors anymore, and getting a USB drive seemed like an easier option. With a connection as simple as USB though, I thought maybe ripping discs with an external CD drive might not give as quality rips, or playing. Thanks!

Ive have both. external is flexible and can be taken from one computer to the next. just like external hard drive and even more flexible. i say buy a internal burner. then ya got one to read from and one to write to without swapping disc. internal is cheap enough now. works well and faster.

its a laptop so he can only have one drive, but i would also go with an internal because it would be more portable, and you wont have to get out the external and plug it into te computer and wall every time you use it.

Thanks for the help! I'm definitely going to get the internal, they have the right model on eBay for like 50 bucks, it's just a matter of knowing how to take out the old one and install the new one. It should be pretty easy.
