Externally removable SATA drives 3.5

Is it possible to buy a case or a adapter(dell green thingys) that would allow me to remove a 3.5 drive externally of the case without tools?I do a bunch of copying of Hard drives and its becoming a big pain to have to open the cases all the time.I realize I can get a external case and hook it up USB2 but I want the transfer rates of the internal SATA

If so what case do I need to order or what is the adaptor called?
 
USB 2.0 can transfer 60mb/s so it isn't bottlenecking too bad because hdds can only read at around 80mb/s anyways.

if thats treue even w/ SATA drives then u dont need a a sata spead thingy. A usb enclosure will work.

Motoxrdude - Do you have a screenshot of a drive achieving those speeds? So far I've yet to see a USB drive going over ATA33 speeds.

SATA drives are removable(I can't recall if all are, or if it's just later ones). If you get a true external SATA drive enclosure(basically straight through with no circuitry inside), there should be no performance difference than with internal drives.

I know there are also removable caddies you can get that connect by IDE, and probably SATA as well.

Yeah, because i would take a screenshot of the transfer rates of an external hdd....

USB 2.0 480mbits/s=60mb/s. So if its going at ata33 speeds, then it must be the harddrive, right?

if not, you will have to somehow get a power source to the hdd.

Thanks Guy.That is exactly what I am looking for because my primary drive is going to be SATA and my removable drives are going to be ATA>That is perfect.Still would like to find a tray for the SATA though at some point.
 
Sometime I plan to pop a few enclosures open and see what the chips are rated at, but yes, it's hardware limitations. Probably a combination of USB limitations, conversion chipsets, and such...
