Extreme Lag...i give up

I dont know what the porblem is, ive been asking this same questions for over 5 months now. Even when i play games like CS i still ping over 100. I have SBC yahoo DSL, ussualy get 1155kps, a 3.4 p4, 128 radeon x300, and 512. Now to play something like CS that doubles all the recommened specs. Also, when i play WoW (world of warcraft) i get over 300 latency, and cant enter a place with a lot of people or it will just lokc up and freeze. In ventrilo (a online voice communication program) i ping about 70, while my friends get around 20. I have no clue what the problem is, any ideas?

It cant be, cause be and 6 of my friends all live in the same town using the same ventrilo/game server and ping a lot less then me. Esspecial in ventrilo, i have a much better comp then one of my friends and he still pings in the 20's while i get 70's. >.> Would getting a new router instead of using the 2wire gateway they give you improve it? Although another one of my friends has the same connection/modem as me and he pings fine.

when you say and 512 do you mean 512MB of ram? what speed and what kind? I had 512MBDDR333 once and it lagged with WoW, for world of warcraft when entering any major capital city it'll lag very bad with that much RAM, World of warcraft is a very RAM based game, you can try upgrading your RAM to 1GB and DDR if you have SD. Also in your potions for WoW try turning tripble buffering on, it'll either help or make thigns worse.

Also which CS are you playing? if its source prabally the same reason

EDIT:OKay so wow, i just relized im an idoit because you put latnecies on there which would mean its not computer lag and internet lag... although i would still stand by my statment about WoW becuase 300 isn't that bad for WoW, my friend plays find on 450.


Also you may some spyware using up your internet while you play. P2P and bit torrent programs can also do the same.

well i dont really know the difference between ping and latency but whatever lol. Anyways i play 1.6 and even if my RAM is bad, it should still be better then required for CS. About the spyware thats what ive heard, but i checked with 5 diff programs and nothing came up. I wouldnt hesitate to re-format, but i dont think i have a copy of windows XP and wordperfect and all that neat software. So i cant really do that.
