extremly high cpu usuage

for some reason my cpu usuage reads 70-100% most of the time.... when in games it is at like 100% almost all the time and some times when i aint in games and just just typening like i am now it can spurt up over 10 - 15% i heard normal running % is at like 5% anyone no why it is running so high?

i got a amd athlon xp 3200 running at stock speed of 2.2

i had it happen to me

im just a newbi here but i had that problem once it was a driver or program not responding. look in services and see if any are sucking up a ton then shut it down or find a program not resonding. fix for that is use msconfig tool and start takeing everything out of startup leave stuff that you want to run all the time like virus scan or firewalls.

ya sorry CTRL ALT DELETE task manager in services look for a memory hog but first if it was me i would go to run in start and type msconfig and start duming stuff out of startup that dont need to run all the time that will kill your resorces.

Start --> Run --> Services.msc and disable what you dont need (you can even delete them via Command Prompt anfd the SC command)

sounds like some sorta spyware to me.
you may want to try some sorta spyware remover like ad-aware SE

nope not any spyware stuff there is a think in processes (alt ctrl delete) called system idle process but im guessing that that just tells u how much cpu u got left and wat its idling at? cause its running at 99-96 atm but when i start prgrams it drops to like 1-2 lol

posibilitys

run virus scan, get (spybot search and destroy), restart after msconfig, check again for the memory hog....check ur bios settings to be sure ur not overclocking on accident, some virus can do this to destroy ur procceser....if all else fails...restore ur computer and it should fix the problem

1st in taskmanager go to processes, sort the list by CPU usage, and look what service is doing taht and just right click and "end process tree".
then run online antivirus (maybe: www.pandasoftware.com/activescan ) and check your computer.
then msconfig sounds great! this could make the app that runs the service that taking all your CPU power not to boot with windows.

3rd... reinstall win
