F.E.A.R. problems

Whenever I start playing the game, almost instantly the game will crash. The screen turns black with alot of small white and colored squares everywhere and then it freezes there. I know its not overheating because everything is in the green zone for temp. on my computer. And i don't think i'm over working it because before it was playing alright just a little laggy. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be.
 
Now the same problem is happening but with all my games, I'm not sure what to do at all. My last resort is to format my hard drive but I don't want to quite do that yet.
