What do you think?

Thanks

I'm assuming that this is a desktop system that he's offering, and that's most of the trade off in this situation. Although this computer is more powerful, you're losing your portability with your current laptop. This will forever be the dividing line between laptop and desktop (in price vs. power vs. portability). So, these computers are pretty equal in their value (yours might be a little higher) but I'd also say that if you're fine with switching from laptop to desktop, take it.

Yeah it's a desktop, i don't care about portability.

The thing is, the video card is 512mb, but it's only 108 bucks. Is there some sort of catch?

Well, part of it is that the memory bit type is only 128 (little low), don't remember all the specifics on that type of stuff, though.

However, I wouldn't promise anything, make sure that he allows you to inspect the computer before agreeing completely to the exchange. (If he resists, that should definitely put up a red flag...)

Do you think i'll be able to play FEAR on high settings? Age of empires 3 with shadows on high? etc? or it's just an ok system?

I want a powerful desktop, not just ok.

High settings? Probably not. Normal, I think you'll be fine, but I haven't played the game, so I'll leave that up to someone else... The only real sore spot might be that the GPU is a little dated, but for $150 - $200 you can get one that'll get you rockin' on anything out there right now...

Forgive my noobness but what's GPU?

So this computer is not so much as "extreme" graphics as i thought it was?

It should do most games out there right now just fine. But, I wouldn't expect it to do all the extra flashy stuff that some of the more recent games are stressing. You could even sell the card that's in there now, probably be able to get about $50 - $75 for it, and use that toward an upgrade. To give you an idea, I got a GeForce 6600 about 10-11 months ago for $150, so I'd do a little looking around to see what you'd think would be acceptable for you to spend on an upgrade, if you wanted to. (If I was in your situation, I'd probably wait a bit before upgrading the card, it'll help keep the computer current longer...)

Edit: I just checked Newegg, and they're selling a comparable card for $111, so I'd take no less than $75 for the card, still getting a good deal back, and setting the other guy up with a good deal, too...

And to which video card should i upgrade? Budget = 200 bucks max.

Edit: Thanks for the above post. So... would you do the exchange? I need to discuss the monitor, because his offer doesn't bring a monitor. Though he said we would work out something out and give me one. Since he actually sells computers for a living, maybe I can tell him to ignore the monitor and give me a bettter graphics card?

Sure. Just dont expect to get anything above 5fps.

Budget = 200 bucks max.
Some price points:
Of that list, the best card would be the X850XT followed by the X800XL/6800GS ... now if you unlock pipes on the X800GTO² then that will also become a second choice card.
