I have a fake anti spy where virus on my computer. Its a windows 7 computer that I built (with a lot of help from this forum).

the name of the fake anti spy where is "Win 7 home security 2011" it keeps saying that my system is infected and all that crap. It was not letting me on the internet, but it is now for some reason.

Im running Avast anti virus.

If i could have some help that would be great. Thanks!

Win7 is pretty serious, your probably going to want to run a system restore and set it to a previous date. Its a bad virus, I've had it previously...

For a PC... Start>All Programs>Default Programs>System Restore In The Search Bar> Restore System Files And Settings From A Restore Point> Then You Can Most Likely Choose The Recommended Date, If Not Choose Your Own.

(Note: This may not work first try with Win7, so if it doesn't, try it a couple more times. Be patient.)

Hope I could help!

Ah yeah I forgot about system restore. Ill give that a try.

(edit)

I get that done... and now the computer will not start up all the way. It gets to the "windows is starting" window then turns black after that. But the mouse cursor is there and movable.

Doing a system restore is the last thing you can try doing to try and get your system running normally again. It may help in the short term so that you can use your pc, but technical you will still be infected.

Now, try booting to safe mode and undoing the restore. Then go to the security section of this forum and read the sticky "please read before posting" and follow the instructions there and post the logs.

Im at work right now but will help you later when I get home.

How long did you leave it after the system restore? Sometimes it may take a few minutes for the restore to actually finish and say its been completed. Other than that, hit ctrl-alt-del to bring up task manager and click on new task and type "explorer.exe" without the quotes and hit ok, see if that will bring up the desktop, maybe wait a few minutes after doing it to see the desktop and icons come back.

I left it until it restarted. thats when it got stuck or something.

the task manager will not open, its almost like its stuck right before the login or profile window.

do you have the windows 7 install dvd? If so, then boot to it and run a repair on the OS.

Ok I reinstalled windows 7. Everything is fine now. Its running a little slow right now though. Im downloading auslogics disk defrag and I had a bunch of junk files for some reason, I got rid of them. Do you have any other suggestions I could try, for speeding it up?

On a fresh install it shouldn't be running slow. You may have other issues. Can you give me an idea on what you mean by slow? What kind of system specs do you have?

Nope, no log file would pop up. You would only get an error code or saying that it fixed errors. Not sure what to tell you to check now. Maybe remove and reinsert the memory or try another fresh install. Did the slowness occur right after the install or did you install programs/updates and then notice the slowness?

Oh okay. It was just slow when installing things. But I thinks its fine now.

The only problem im having now is that its idling at 40 to 43c and when ever I try to do some 3D rendering or play a game it gets up to 60. It wasn't like this last year, the only thing I did to it since then was replacing the thermal compound (arctic silver). I guess it probably cause its 80 some degrees and I don't have air conditioning.

I wouldn't worry about the temps if its that warm in your house. You just may need a better heatsink/fan if you are worried about temps.

Yeah, we were just given a free air conditioner and we will probably put it in the window right next to the computer. So that will probably lower the temps.

Thanks for all your help!

Is this true? I don't understand. The "technical[ly] you will still be infected" part, could you explain more please? The reason I'm asking isn't to try and seem smarter than you I'm asking because I just told my aunt to do that with her computer (system restore) when she got a virus that appeared to have removed all her desktop icons except internet explorer, and if she clicked on the ie icon some bogus security scan would start. Actually, the virus she had sounds pretty similar to the terminator's. Her virus had a security center icon in the taskbar too I believe (I can't remember exactly what she said, we were talking on the phone and yeah don't remember if she said she had that icon or not).

Ok, but anyway, yeah I told her to boot up into safe mode and I was just going to have her run her av program but then I was like "oh, well you could try a system restore, I doubt it will work but if it does it'll be faster". So she ran the system restore and a couple of weird things happened after the system restore was complete. 1) It actually worked! (or appeared to at least, the desktop icons were back and it appeared she had no problem doing anything she wanted to do on her computer) and 2) all of her files in [my]documents and [my]pictures were deleted. Actually when I get done writing this I'm gonna head over to her place or call her up because I bet the virus is still on her system. Still though, this is what also confuses me. What does system restore even do then if it did get rid of symptoms of a virus?
