just happened to find out that the usb ports are bad on the mobo and it killed 2 usb flash drives. so i might as well overhaul the entire system.

the case i already bought from compusa: antec 900

LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model
MITSUMI Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal USB 2.0 digital card reader with Floppy
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3250620AS 320GB
POWERCOLOR X800 GTO PCIE x16
XCLIO 500W GOODPOWER
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 1.3) LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel
throw in my e6600 so i dont have to buy another one )
ZALMAN 9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler - Retail

Subtotal: $550.93

computer will be used to internet, email, movies, create dvd/cd, do taxes, word processing ( office ) pictures etc.

i'm thinking it might be a little too much for a family pc.

i just order another copy of vista business from school ($25) and i got the case and i was gonna go with value ram but the xms cost almost the same after rebate so... :) it might help when ocing the cpu. i dont think it will run well with the rest of the hardware at stock speed.

It's not an overkill if you are running Vista, especially with the MS Office software. The price isn't bad though. :)

Seems fine, the video card isn't that of an overkill, but why no get a mobo with integrated video? that would do it more than good and the Ultra would do the job

that ultra x psu is not on newegg though. other than the case i want to get everything there to save shipping.
