Fan Help

Ive Noticed that my computer has been crashing due to heating issues. Im planning to buy an extra case fan and place it on the side, but i just checked Everest and i learned that the factory installed heatsink fan (made by intel) they gave me only runs at around 1050rpm. My computer is a pentium D 3.0 ghz and ive heard this processor has horrible heating issues. I want to know if there is any way to speed up the heatsink fan or if this fan is not working properly so i can replace it with a zalman CNPS9500 LED or ask the company i bought it from to get me a new heatsink.

if so
should i install the zalman heatsink or buy a case fan if the factory installed heatsink they gave me is working properly?

thanks..

This is my take on this subject. Run the computer with tthe side covers on, after about 10-15 minutes, carefully take the side cover off with the pc still running, take your thumb and one finger and put both on either side of the metal part of the heatsink. It should feel neutral to slightly, plesantly warm. If it is hot where it would cause discomfort, something is wrong. Your processor is just billions of transistors and when they overheat, they start conducting on their own without stimulation from their controll circuitry, causing thermal runaway , when this happens it generates even more heat, burning the transistor(s) open. This process can happen in a nano second.
A case fan is a wise choice. Make sure you install the case fan so it draws air THROUGH the computer ( across the HD , mainboard...etc) As opposed to pushing air into the case. There usually is a liitle arrow somewhere on the fan to show direction of air and rotation.
