fan maintenance

about to do a little maintenance. I am going to vacuum out my HTPC, spray compressed air, etc. Is it wise to lubricate the cpu, and case fans with a little silicone spray lubricant?

To properly lube a fan, you need to peel up the sticker, maybe remove a small rubber plug, and put in one or two drops of fine oil. 3-in-1 or SAE10W oil works well. Hold the fan so that the oil works its way down the shaft, and spin it by hand a little. After a few minutes, wipe up any excess oil (there should be none), replace the plug (if there was one), replace the sticker, and put the fan back where you got it.

Clean the fans with an old toothbrush. Never use compressed air to clean a fan... you'll spin the blades too fast and/or break a blade off, ruining the fan.
