Fan plugins

Alright sry for some more newb questions but they just keep coming. My motherboard has 3 places to connect the fans. 2 system fan spots and a cpu fan. I have 3 fans and a cpu cooler installed in my computer so i was wondering where i plug in the last fan. Also where does the other connector coming from the fans go into. the connector is double sides with 4 pins in each.
thx for the help

The four pin connector you're talking about sounds like a molex connector, the same kind you would use for an ide hard drive or cd drive. If it's a molex connector, you can use that to power it through the power supply instead of through the mother board.

So they give u 2 connectors but u only need to use one of them? Which one is better to use to power ur fans?

All the fan connectors on the motherboard do is monitor your fan's RPM and maybe let you adjust it depending on your motherboard.

3-pin connectors allow voltage adjustments and allow the fan to report its RPM.

Molex connectors just run the fan at the full 12V.

alright i just plugged in my power supply to the wall to c if if the fans or anything else would turn on(cpu not installed yet) and absolutely nothing happened. I flipped the switch on the power supply a couple times as well. Is my power supply dead?

no... it will need to be turned on by the power button on the case. otherwise it will not work.

Or you could jump the power supply or plug it into a power supply tester.

Just flipping the switch won't work, though. That just means the power supply is getting power from the wall, it's not putting anything out.

I did the same thing when I got my new power supply. My motherboard wasn't shipped to me yet, and I figured I'd at least put the power supply in the case and see how I could organize the wires. I plugged it in to see how loud it would be, and nothing happened. Scared me for a second, until I realized it didn't mean it was broken. I thought at least the fan would run. O well, live and learn.

haha yea thats what i thought. When it didnt turn on i was like awww shit just my luck. Was happy as hell when u guys told me i have to turn it on through the power button. Anyway to my next newb question. For the f_audio i have a hd and ac 97 audio header and then like 6 wires. Im looking in a my manual and it tells me where to plug the headers in for either hd or ac 97. However if i plus those wires in then the ac97 and hd audio connectors r such floating around. Im guessing thats how ur supposed to do it but im just making sure. Is there any performance difference between hd and ac 97? Lastly where does the header named 1394 go?
thx guys
