Fan question.

Hi, As most of you already know.... I'm a newbie when it comes to tinkering with pc's. So... I want to add case fans to my HP Pavilion 304w desktop. How in the world do I go about doing that?

Also Im thinking about replacing the Heat Sink fan. Fan only. Is this a good idea or should I replace it all while I'm at it? Heat sink, fan and all. Thanks for any info.

It's pretty easy to install case fans. You need to find what size the spaces for the fans are, then buy fans of that size. Then you have to screw the fans on, facing in whichever direction you desire. To test, plug the wire on the fan into the wire from the power supply that matches. Once attached to the side/top/bottom of your computer, you plug them back into these cords. If you want to be able to control and monitor the fan via BIOS, you should plug the 3 pin plug into the motherboard where it says S Fan or maybe C Fan. This is not necessary.

Marsbars, Thanks for the info. What do you think about the $1.99 fans from newegg? Or Should I go with something else?

Another question..... How should I mount the fans? 1 fan in the front intake + 1 fan in the back exhaust? or use both fans as exhaust? or blowing out...

An extra/replacement case fan might be a good idea. The only downside to adding fans is the additional noise, unless you have negative pressure in the case. The Tri-Cool that I listed is pretty much silent so you could go for that if you wanted. The CPU fan, however is really unnecessary. A different fan won't don't much for your temps, and the temps aren't bad to begin with.
