my 240 is usually very quiet now, was really loud but fixed the problem, anyway, i was playing a game, walked out of my room, came back in like 25mins. later, and i hear my fans, do the fans change speeds or something? this is what im thinking..

but if you weren't using your pc for like 25min, the cpu should've been idling and the fans would've gotten slower. did you leave the game on all that time?

yeahh, i did..

Then its probably the build up of tempreature and the grpahics card was still also working. Its usual.
You shouldnt be too worried about fan noise.

Their isnt really a think to fix fan noise, but their are quiter designed psu's.

No...more than likely its a bad memory controller on the board. I work for Fairfax county government in the IT department and have seen many of these optiplex gx 240 and gx 280 have the same problem. We always call up dell and tell them its happening on another pc. Its a known problem with those models and the techs at dell will tell you that you need the motherboard replaced. (and its not so they can get more money bc we get it all for free since its under warranty) Ive had to call dell on ten separate cases for that problem in the last 5 months

now obviously theres gonna be some noise....problem with fan cooling in general. But if it sounds like a plane about to take off or the sound gets louder over the next few weeks then id say its the problem i stated above

I use a lot of Opitplex GX520's. I have the same problem, and at first it was so loud i thought it was the HDD. It's become more of a joke here, becasue you know Dell puts jet engines in there cases, and sometimes if you're lucky, you'll get to see your optiflex prepare for takeoff. If you press ctrl, alt, T, your optiflex will actually blast off. its incredible.

okay im done but anyway, yes its a pain and hes right. the motherboard is messed. hope your still under warranty!
