fans for laptops?

so for those of you that have seen or own the fans that u place under your notebook to keep it cool do they really help? are they loud? my computer gets pretty hot at times and im wondering if it will really help.
 
I have one for my laptop and it works wonders. It runs faster and cooler then ever now. I gained at least 15 degrees on it when i put that under my computer. Also, it was cheap and well worth the investment since mine had a usb hub on it too
 
i would assume you are talking about acooling pad, i have one, its not loud but i don't really think it does anything
 
I've tested a bunch of these like 6 months ago, i tihnk it was like 5-6 diff kinds, cheap and expensive..think the most expensive one was like 35 bux tho..and tbh they do work, i have noticed a decrease in the temp of the notebook...It also serves a dual purpose as a lap pad, so u dont burn ur legs.
 
I have a little tri-fan laptop cooling pad if you're looking for one. I've used it like...once? I actually got it for my previous laptop, but ended up selling that beast soon after. As for how loud they are, this one is actually silent!
