Fast Dial-Up Modem?

Yes, I know that's an oxymoronic question, but I need / want the fastest one I can get. I know that I can get 26.4 Kbps on this line, but am only getting 19.2 and would like to get the other 7.2 Kbps. I also know that 7.2 doesn't sound like much to those of you who have DSL or Cable service available, but it's a big deal to those of us who don't have the option.

So, if anyone has any sugestions as to a particular brand and specific model #, I would be very greatfull for the recommendation.

Thanks in advance for any and all info. :)

.......19.2k....wow.....

you should be able to get 56k on a phone line, and if you have a 28k modem, thats its theoretical max, you wont be able to get it.

get into contact with telephone company and see if you can get them to increase the signal voltage or gain on the line, that should improve the signal quality somewhat and may help your transfer rate.

it depends on how far you live from the phone company. I lives about 1.5 miles away from it and my max speed was around 44-45KBps. So you dont get 56K on a phone line no matter what.

YEP! I'm not looking for 56K or even 36K, just the best/fastest Dial-Up Modem that any of you good folks can recommend. The best I've gotten out here in the STICKS (10 miles from nearest little town) is 26.4 Kbps, and that was on a new Dell Dimension B110 that has a Conexant D850 chipset in it's Modem, but I don't know who's board it's on. I've got an Apollo with an Intel 536EP chipset on it and it sucks! So basically I know I can do better (granted, not alot better, but I want the other 7.2 Kbps). :)

you might wanna try some other access numbers, cause i remember when i had it some of them went at 28kbs and some at 44kbs

I'll look into that, thanks.
Geting back to the original question though, can you recommend a QUALITY DIAL-UP MODEM??? :)

i dont think there is a noticeable difference between modems, the only thing that really matters is the connection quality.
