faster-p-4 3.0 gig Prescott or 3.2 Northwood?

I just upgraded my son's machine to a P-4, 3.0 Gig, 775 Prescott with 1 mg. cache, but could have gotten a 3.2 Gig older style chip with only 512 L-2 cache. Is that the Northwood? Anywhooo .. does the extra cache and newer design make up for or excede the .2 Gig of speed that is lost? Which would you choose? Thanks

Northwood should win almost everytime (with the exception of SSE3 tests obviously but not that many cases where SSE3 plays a big part yet)

Is that the Northwood?
Yes

The extra cache does help but not enought IMO to overcome the clock per clock deficiency ... and since the Prescott does not outclock the Northwood, not a chance.

too my knowledge there is no 512k cache p4 chip for the lga775 socket so that faster chip wouldn't fit

I think, when he said,

The older-style referred to Socket478?
