Fatal program interference during installation?

I thank in advance anyone who can aid me with this problem.

I have a program called Doubletwist that will not install on this computer. It's worked fine for months, and the most recent update asked me to uninstall the original first, then after running the new setup file the necessary files are automatically downloaded. After about a second of installation I get an error saying that another program is interfering with the installation, and to close all open programs and retry. Closing all open programs yielded the same result, as did booting into safe mode with everything disabled besides the necessary internet connection services. So, even if I'm running only basic services, I always get the message that another program is preventing the installation from completing.

I'm fairly sure I've eliminated all remnants of the previous installation through CCleaner and a manual Windows search.

I'm using XP Pro with SP3 on the desktop I'm referring to. I also have an Asus notebook with Vista which ran the installation fine.

My guess is that SP3 is somehow preventing the installation, as no other programs are running when the error happens. Does anyone have any insight into this problem? Thank you for any help you can offer.

Well, im not familiar with the program but you gave a lot of info to get help.
CCleaner works well. look for a progy called Regseeker to clean orphans.
The only other suggestion i have is goto run %appdata% and delete all occurrences of this proggy. Thats the only thing i can think of.
I'll watch and maybe something else will come to mind.
