Faulty Power Supply

what kinds of problems can a faulty power supply cause? my computer has been having weird problems, and im wondering...

random restarts, damage parts, overheat, catch on fire(yes my friends did), totally burn out your system...

I've heard how you want a power supply with at least a +12/16A.... what would happen if you power supply didn't meet those requirments??

read PSU101, 16A on the 12v rail is pretty low. a 32A is recommended, aswell as dual 12v rails

twice ive turned on my computer and it said, THE POWER PLUG TO YOUR RADEON VIDEO CARD IS NOT PLUGGED IN, PLUG IT IN AND RESTART. both times it was plugged in and secure, once my hard drive was totaly messed up and i had to reinstall windows....
