Faulty Video Card?

Hi, I think there is a problem with my video card, it's an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780Ti... lately my computer has been freezing a lot. This occurs in-game and also while I'm playing a windows media file, iTunes or just using steam. The freezes come in a variety of forms: for example if I'm playing a video and it freezes it sometimes plays a loud noise repeatedly, other times it freezes it plays the sound in distorted ultra slow motion. When it freezes the keyboard and mouse are inactive, I either have to wait for it to recover or I have to power off...

I've run memtest on both my RAM cards separately and there's no errors with them. I've run scans using MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, avast, Eusing Free Registry Defrag, Eusing Free Registry cleaner, Norton, AdwCleaner, JRT and cleaned any problems with them. I've used Display Driver Uninstaller to completely uninstall all my graphics drivers and I installed the latest Nvidia one again. If it helps, here's my system's info:
Windows 7 Ultimate,
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.80 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780Ti

Thank you for taking the time to read this, any help you can offer is appreciated.

Im not to much of an expert but my computer used to do this aswell and i found out it was my ram was bad and i had to turn it down from 1600 to 1333 but i still need to replace it in the future...dont quote me on this cause i could be wrong ha

Welcome to Computerforum. :)

What are your system temps like?..are you sure all the fans are running.?

Download and install Speccy here,And tell us what temps.

Also what is your Power Supply name/brand & wattage if possible..did you build the system yourself?

Thanks for the quick replies guys. These are my temperatures:
CPU
Intel Core i5 3570K @ 3.40GHz 40 °C
Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology

Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z77-D3H (Intel Core i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz) 28 °C

Graphics
S230HL (1920x1080@60Hz)
ASUS VS247 (1920x1080@60Hz)
3071MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti (Gigabyte) 38 °C

Storage
931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-9YN162 ATA Device (SATA) 34 °C

My computer is custom built and my cousin built it for me, and I checked just then my power supply fan is not running, is that the problem? The power supply's brand is Thermaltake, and I'm not sure how to check the wattage.

If the fan isn't running then most likely you have a failing power supply. Discontinue using the machine and get a new power supply. The model number should be on the power supply. Some have to get removed from the case to find the sticker.

Might not be the PSU though,Some power supplies have a feature that turns off the fan and it only comes on when needed.

Apostle,Have you tried removing the graphics card for a while and just using the integrated HD4000 graphics and testing the stability of your system without the card in?

I don't think it's the RAM, because I've done two separate memtests on both my RAM sticks, but thanks for the advice.

Thanks, I'll firstly try using just the motherboard's graphics to check it's stability.

I've removed the card now and I'm just using the motherboard graphics. I'll now test it for a while, thanks.

Need to really know what wattage and model the Thermaltake is. Do you have something like PC Wizard installed. If not do so and see what the voltage shows on the 12V/5V rails.

I took out the power supply and read the sticker on the back, and I recorded these results:
Model: LP-600AL2NH
Litepower 600 ATX 12V 2.3
The combined power of +5V & +3.3V is 120W

I also tried using PC Wizard but it only gave me the display for the processor and video card voltages.

Change your power supply. Its not the 3 and 5 volt rails we are worried about, its the 12 volt rail. That unit has 2 rails and is underpowered for your video card.

I would suggest something like these.

If you want to go modular get this one.

Okay, I'll replace my power supply. Thanks for the help.
