I have a second hardrive i would like to fdisk and format in order to clone the entire c drive intact. Problem is Xp pro will format but then continues to load the rest of the operating system. Any suggestions?

go to administravtive tools then click on disk management. You can fromat and partition your volume from there inside windows. fdisk for the most part is a DOS command and is seldomly used in windows xp

Installing Windows fresh is always the best move. I run three different drives with XP Home on the primary, Vista Home Premium on the slave, and XP Pro on a 500gb sata just added. It takes time to install all drivers and programs/games but the time is well spent when fewer problems are seen. The sata here was initially bought to replace the storage partition on the second drive. But Vista won't install there so... maybe a second 500gb sata?

Thanks, I am trying to install a larger drive with all of my old system then use the smaller drive in a different computer with win98.

What make and size is the smaller one there? I figured you were wanting to transfer everything over. The main problem is the size difference between drives. For creating both Fat32 and NTFS partitions as well as Linux primary and swap partitions one tool does it all. This would be GParted live for cd that will remove any partition and create a replacement event Fat32 to replace the current NTFS on the drive now. But a clean install on a new partition is the best rec for the new drive. Then go to town copy and pasting files and folders before...
