Few questions about 'Mobile Broadband'

Hi, I'm a student and just moved in to a student house with some random people. They say they're not going to get the internet for the house which is a major bummer, so I've been looking at the short term option of Mobile Broadband, the service provided by mobile phone networks and I have a few questions.

Firstly, if the USB dongle receives the internet, does my computer need wireless capabilities? (My wireless hardware is broke basically) Or does the dongle basically act as a wireless receiver?

Also, all the short term options have downlaod limits. I've a bit worried about this one. What actually counts as "downlaoding"? For example, if I save something to my computer which I've downloaded, then of course I know I've downloaded it. But say I stream a YouTube video, is this classed as "downloading" with the download limit or is the limit strictly on the downloads I choose to save off the internet?

Also, the one I'm looking at is O2 Mobile Broadband Pay & Go service. So if anyone knows anything about this, that would be really helpful.

Thanks.

Whenever I used it has been subpar at best and only good for emergencies. Not only that, but it also tends to be pretty pricey. Why not just look into a bundle deal with cable phone and whatnot for the house and tell your roomates you'll pay for the internet? It prolly wont be that more expensive and your going to get a lot better results.

Hey, yeah they are expensive but if you get it off your mobile contract company they often do it a lot cheaper. Three offered it to me for £15 instead of £35.

Another thing that you might not have thought of, about normal broadband (I'm assuming your in the UK here seeing as you mention the O2), is that you have to pay BT line rental ~ £14 pm as well. Unless you get Virgin/Sky. If there is a phone line then you can get a lot of cheap deals. I'm with *Be and its £18 = unlimited downloads/very fast, and theres no contract, all you need to give is 3 months warning. I know as a student myself that 12 month contracts are annoying!

Essay over, hope it helps. Doug.
