If I was to go with a 6800 GT, would this not outdate for atleast 4 yrs and still play most/all games out in 4 yrs or more?

How much better is the 7800 GT than the 6800 GT?

Would a 850 XT be better than the 6800 GT? 7800 GT?

I say yes. My parents computer has a GeForce 2 MX (we bought the PC in '00) and it can run Doom 3, but only get like 10 FPS. It lasted through 5 years of games, so I say the 6800GT will too.

Substantially better. Enough to notice a difference.

I would say on par with the 6800GT, but the 7800GT(or GTX) will be better.

i think 4 years is pushing it a bit. i would thing more like 3 yrs. game advancement is a lot quicker these days. leaps and bounds.

i think u may get a few more months out of the 7800, but its hard to tell. gaming is incredible these days. i would go 6800 and save a few bucks, and then upgrade in a few years, instead of paying for the 7800 now and getting maybe a couple more months out of it. of course, its up to you though. :)

i like the way u think skidude...if hes looking for longevity of vid cards, i think u have the best suggestion (about the 2 7800s)

Yeah, I'd go with that. You have the power you need now, and then when you want better quality outta those demanding games, just go SLI. It's like buying a whole new type of card, except you aren't spending top dollar for that new speed, you are simply spending less and combining 2 older GPU's to make one nice one.

And you have to find an exact copy of the card later on in the future which isn't gonna be easy...
