fiber optics in the home?

Okay, so when this tech came from AT&T to upgrade our AT&T Uverse internet connection plus the Uverse TV, I asked him when he thought fiber optics would start coming into people's homes. This was late 2009 or early 2010. He said that the cables running behind our house and behind the house behind our backyard WERE actual fiber optic connections. So, why exactly is it that fiber optic connections INSIDE the home are not available in our area (Aurora, IL, 60506)??

One of my professors back in 2008 I think it was said that he already had fiber optic cabling installed throughout his home and was just waiting for fiber optics in the area to become available in the home. I hope he's not holding his breath considering it's only about 15 miles from here.

Btw, have to brag: my mom is paying $30/month for 1.5 Mbps d/L speed. I told her I would pay the difference which is $25 (totaling $55/month) to upgrade our d/L speed to 18 Mbps. Upgraded yesterday, becomes effective on the 13th. Nice!! Can't wait.

don't know. I have Uverse and fiber optic but the people across don't have it. Go figure. Been like that about 3 yrs. Maybe never will.

i have uverse but i didnt know some people were actually getting fiber optics in their home.

I just thought it was FO from the main hub or whatever to the demarc (im making up these terms since i dont know what they are really called in this case) an then coax from there to the homes.

I guess you could have FO but you have to pay someone to run fiber optics to your house.

I also dont see a fiber optics port on the back of my main uverse box.

im sure the answer is money.

Verizon FIOS offers it. I'm pretty sure that it was 1 MBps (megabyte) d/L speeds. I know Verizon either must have had their start and/or are just really popular in the Eastern U.S. states. I typed our home phone and/or zip code in for Verizon FIOS a year ago and it wasn't available here in, at least, our area of Illinois.

I have a main junction running through the backyard. Everything is underground here. Nothing diff i can see. Inside the house looks like cat5 or 6.
