Hi
I was fiddleing around with my computer and I went to open a .dat file to see what it was like. I wanted to open it in word pad and when I double clicked it it asked me what to open it in. I know about this. I chose word pad but accidentaly click open before I had un ticked the box that said to always open this type of file with is program. Now all .dat files are open in word pad. How can I reset it so that it will ask me how to open .dat files instead of opening it in word pad. I know how to change what program it will open in but I dont know how to make it ask me every time.

open up any folder, any one will do, click TOOLS, then go to FOLDER OPTIONS, click the FILE TYPES tab, wait a few secs for the long list to load, find ".dat" and set it to what you want, or delete the entry or whatever you want to do with it. DONE

I have done it but differently
I tried to do that but .dat files werent on that list and I think it is because they are hidden. I had to create a new one for .dat and it automaticaly went to word pad but since I had created it it was there so I could delete it.
