file compression

I am looking for a program that will do hi-compression Like 50-60 percent of the entire file. I came across a console one that compressed files down to what I currently need but I can't find it again.

Anyone know where I could find this program?

Have you tried Winzip (www.WinZip.com) or WinRar (www.WinRar.com) ?? I remember PKUnzip was a console unzip program... If you have any old DOS games, its probably on the disk!

doesnt support many extensions... ive found the best compression program is Stuffit (www.stuffit.com). it supports every common extension and has many extra features like Self Extracting Archives etc. its also supposedly the best program for compressing images

Thanks for all the ideas... I did do a google search before posting and I did find 7-zip. It was not the program I am looking for, though it will work I guess. Thanks for all the help!

I did some tests one year ago. I tested many compression utilities. I wanted to find the best compression ratio. I don't remember exactly, but I guess that it was compression utility called "RK". Try put it to GOOGLE. But that was only CLI utility. Ratio is very good, but compression is very slow. (but that is reality-it must be seen somewhere ;o)
