file folder permission question?

Hi all

Please help to understand this concept, my uni has 1 resource drive to submit our assignment. i am studying I.T 1st semester. check my scenario

resource drive > "I.T folder" > "submit assignment" folder(thats where we need to paste our work). whenever we have to submit our work we have copy our files and simply right click on submit assignment folder and click paste but once we did that we can not re paste the same files unless renamed neither we can open that submission folder. now the things is i want to understand how does this work? i want to test this thing in my home but till so far i cant get success in one thing that how to restrict users from re-pasting the files unless they rename it or paste new files.
plz help

in Windows, there are two levels of permissions: Folder or Share permissions & NTFS permissions.

first create a new user account to test this out and make them part of the users group (not an admin)

now disable simple file sharing.
open My Computer, Tools, Folder Options. under view tab, scroll down and untick Use simple file sharing. note that you cannot do this in Home versions.

to create a share, right click on the folder you want to share and goto properties.
under the Share tab, click on Share this folder and give it a name.

click on Permissions, add your users & give them Full, Change or Read permissions as needed.
in my case i give everybody Full control because i use NTFS security settings to micro manage access to a share; you can do this too if you want.

now goto Security tab, add your user or the users group and change their permissions as needed. note that they are listed from greater to least permissions.

for example in your case, your user would have write permission only. which is the lowest on the list, besides special permissions, so check allow.

to test, log in to your new user you created and try to dump a file on the folder, open & modify it to see what happens.
