File Server on Win XP Pro

OK, So this is a silly question coming from an A+ Technician, but currently I am running a Win XP Pro 1.3 GHz (AMD), 1 GB mem, and a 500GB hd. Plus, a POS Dell Latitude D505 with Win XP Pro 1.3 GHz (Intel), 512mb mem, and a 20GB hd, and a Win XP 3.3 GHz (Intel), 1 GB mem, and like an 80GB hd. I would like to run a file server for apps using the first computer mentioned it processes better. I built it after all >:D. I want to use start up scripts on the other 2 computers to make sure they're apps are being loaded from this one computer. It has all server side info installed, and I know it can be done, I honestly need to be pointed in the right direction. Any help is greatly, greatly appreciated.

Ok...is a silly question from an "A+" technician. When you say you want the other computers to load their apps from this one computer what apps are we talking about? You can make it so that programs such as word can open their word docs and save them to your 'server'. Is that what you mean?

Also XP pro can be used as purely a file server but you cant use it as a domain server or anything with the services that it comes with.

after a little bit of trial and error I made it work. Same as your reply, but I did figure it out the hard way. I do highly appreciate your timely response.
