I'm looking for something so that i can share a folder of documents located on my desktop HDD and then be able to access the folder and contents and make changes to them and save them back to the desktop HDD from another computer thru the internet. any idea how i could do this
 
Right-click on the folder > Properites > Sharing > Enable the sharing (if not enabled) and tick the box.

Make sure on the computer that the workgroup is the same - Right-click on my computer > Propeties > Computer Name > Workgroup - Make sure these are the same on each computer.

Then on the computet that you want to access the files on the computer, you go My Network Places > and double-click on the folder there.

Yeah, you need them on the same network for that to work.

otherwise i have nothing else to suggest to you....

Are you wanting to do it over the internet???
