I had tried sharing files from my desktop and laptop using LAN. I used to assign IP address to both of them and sub mask as 255.255.0 , Workgroup of both the computers were same. This was about 2 weeks before.

I tried doing the same, assigning IP and submask to the LAN Connections of both laptop and desktop. But now, i'm not able to connect two computer through LAN. I'm not able to recognize what the problem is. The LAN connections show that they are 'Connected', but when i look into 'My Network Places', i see no files shared.

Or is there any softwares that i can use to share files between computers with Ease?

TBH the it sounds like you need to make sure the folder in question has sharing enabled.
If you want an esy way you could try this

http://www.redkawa.com/fileserver/

It's just a very basic web server, just select the folders to share, then with the other computer go to the ip address that is in the other computers address bar, orginally for the ps3 but it works equally well computer to computer.

It should not be necessary to define the IP addresses (which could change if you have your router DHCP server on Auto). Providing you are using the Microsoft Windows Network the PC should communicate with all PCs in the workgroup. Did you check that subfolder in My Network Places? You have to specify shared folders as posted by Innercx.

I asked, "......Did you check that subfolder (Microsoft Windows Network) in My Network Places?"
Did you?

If you start assigning IP addresses, you have to be careful if there are other devices on the network and how you set up the DHCP server. Is there a reason you don't simply put both PCs to automatically obtain their IP and DNS server addresses; DHCP server on Auto; router to obtain IP and DNS server addresses automatically? Are the IP addresses in the same subnet as the router eg router 192.168.1.1, PC 192.168.1.10 and .11

I also noticed in your first post you had the subnet mask as 255.255.0. Presumably that is a typo, the leading 255. is missing.
