File too big for storage device?

I have a 16 gb USB memory with 11 gb free space, as reported in Window Explorer.

The directory is E:\Somefolder

The folder in my C: drive was reported to be only 5.6 gb

When I drag the folder to E:\Somefolder, it said a file is too big and will not copy over.

Why a 11 gb free space cannot hold a 5.6 gb additional folder?

Is the flashdrive formatted as FAT32? Is there a file in that folder larger than 4gb?If so you'll need to format it or upgrade it to the NTFS file system, as FAT32 has a 4gb file size limit.
