I think I posted this in the wrong place before. I need assistance using Windows Easy Transfer to transfer stuff from Dell PC to new Dell Laptop.
When trying to do this I get the message "problem with IMAGE API [IMAP]". Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Hello,

I always had problems using 'pc to pc file tranfer' software. I gave up because of to many bugs and errors. Fast and easy method would be ftp connected on the same network. Connect both computers to your network, go to http://filezilla-project.org/ download and setup the server on one computer and the client on the other, connect from the client to you server using a 192.168.1.x IP and credentials you setup. Start transfering your data :)
Good luck

rather than doing all this, if you have an external hard drive, memory stick, something similar, just use that lift the stuff over.

If you have neither i would recomend getting one, preferably external hard drive for size and reliability. Then you can use them for storage and movement.

IMAP is some sort of protocol generally used for e-mails, i don't know the ins and outs of it. To get it to possibly work do the following:

I am assuming you are on Vista as it is a new system

Go to start>control panel>Windows Security Centre

click firewall and then disable the firewall. Accept all the stuff asking if you are sure if it comes up.

Do this on both computers, then try.

If you have any after market firewalls or anti-virus such as norton, kaspersky, AVG, MacAffee etc, disable these too on both computers and now try.

If it works, let it transfer then get the firewalls and that back up and you rae good to go

Many thanks

Thanks for the suggestions. I am trying to transfer info from old PC using the Vista disc (inserted into old PC) which came with my new (reconditioned) Dell Laptop because it has Windows Easy transfer. Both computers are 32 bits so there is no issue there. The transfer (to a blank DVD) starts but fails each time with that IMAGE API[IMAP] message. I don't think I can drag and drop to the DVD.
