Hi all,

I need help desperately. I uploaded all my pictures to my friends desktop which is operating on a 64bit OS (I dont even know what that is). However, she went to ghost the hard drive and now it seems that all my pictures are lost.

These pictures are very important to me. Can someone give some advice how I can try to recover this pictures?

Thank you

go to start >> search >> pictures, music and video >> check pictures and photos and press search just to check they have not been moved.

How did you upload them to her computer?

hi,

i just transferred the pictures from my SD card to her desktop via a SD card reader on her computer.

I do not know what the term 'ghost' means. But it seems like her system have been formatted. Is there some software or service that I can bring the hard disk to someone and let them help me recover the pictures? I have about 1gb worth of pictures from the trip with my parents

If ghosting was properly done you should!? have two copies. Do you still have the SD card with the photos intact?

If they seem to be gone first try Rip_Uk's suggestions. If no luck try data recovery software like freeware PC Inspector. I use payware File Scavenger which is a bit easier to use. Although it's probably too late, do as little as possible on that hdd prior to trying recovery. Recover files to another drive, preferably physical drive not a partition. Every new file action may overwrite something.

If you have something that is vital, there should always be 2 copies, preferably in independent storage. If you had them on the SD card you should not delete them from that until your pic are safely on the hard drive AND something else like a dvd rom or dvd rw (AND check the disk is readable). Really vital copies should not all be on the same premises (use bank box, garden shed, work, neighbour, friend etc). People think that is overkill/too much trouble until something like this happens. Suppose it's wedding photos or the first-born?
