PLEASE VOTE ACCORDINGLY:
1 - Evquivilent an extremely outdated system - Pentium II, II or celeron equivilent, onboard graphics etc.
10 - SUPER MACHINE! Capable of anything being thrown at it (i.e. able to play Crysis on high settings)

CPU: Intel Q6600 - Overclocked
MOBO: XFX n-force 680i-LT SLI
GPU: 2x XFX 8800GT 512MB Extreme editoon in SLI
HDD: 2x Seagate 32MB SATA II 500GB @ 7200rpm (1TB total)
RAM: 4GB DDR2 800Mhz ***Corsair*** (4x1GB)
DVD: Pioneer SATA 215BK DL DVD-R/RW
ASUS SATA lightscribe 18x DL DVD-R/RW
PSU: Thermaltake ToughPower 750w
CADE: Antec 900
W/L: D-Link PCI DWL-G520M 108G with MIMO
TV: Leadtek DTV2000H Hybrid
S/C: Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Gamer
HS: Zalman CNPS9700 LED Copper

I'm in Australia.... just keep that in mind

PLEASE JUSTIFY YOUR VOTE!!! if you rate it, explain it please!

Let me know what you think and if there is anything that needs changing

Swas an alright build but you could have gone a little more hardcore with the ram (By going for something with a higher clock), faster HD (If your going this sweetness pc you would want to boot faster, and open files quicker I mean like 1 or 2 raptors.), and you should also make sure that powersupply will power all those cards.

Kent.

the power supply is fine from what ppl have been telling me but that was a concern of mine definately.... i would be going all out with faster hard drives but i have a thing called a budget and im afraid ive hit limits... i was thinking of upgrading ram but i decided against it... spending a fair bit extra on something that will make it slightly better is just not bang for buck

do you mind if i ask, why a 6? I would have thought that it would be worthy of more considering ppl are rating a celeron system a 3....

It's not bad, but some tweaks:

I've not been overly thrilled with the Asus optical drives. I would switch it for a Pioneer or Plextor.

I would recommend an Hauppage TV tuner card, although some of them have some issues with Sound Blaster cards, so you might want to look into that before you consider it for your build.

I would go for a different case :P I really don't like the 900, save for the cooling after the fact. Other than that it's a very badly designed case, and a Thermaltake or one of the other Antec models would make for a better build.

As mentioned, Corsair, Patriot, OCZ, etc would be a better choice for RAM.

bump

I have changed from A-data to corsair ram...

I looked into upgrading my hard drives but the faster ones are just way too far out of my price range... i might upgrade them down the track once they become cheaper but at the moment they blow my budget

i believe asus optical drives are made by pioneer. same goes for buffalo optical drives. as a matter of fact you can flash the buffalo firmware to a compatible pioneer drive to get labelflash and dvd-rom output for all + discs.

How do you justify that? You say that it has good cooling but is poorly designed... if it has good cooling what else is there worth worrying about to make this case so terribly designed? I want good cooling in my case because it will be a very powerful machine and other cases just don't make the cut with their cooling capabilities.

What do you think is so poorly designed that it could make its good cooling system not count for much?

I agree with SirKenin. This case does a good job of cooling your components, but sucks at every thing else.

The drive cages are extreme examples of how not to design a hard drive cage. They are very hard to install, requiring you to use non standard screws to install the drives into the cage, they are a pain to align the cages into the case.

No room to run wires, even if you run most of them on the back side of the case, you are still very limited for space.

The stock fans are loud, they need to be replaced with quieter fans.

The included 3.5 drive adapter is the worst I have ever seen. Read around on the forums and you will see many people have not been able how to use them, or had to modify them to work.

The front grills on the case are very easy to bump, and when you do they become mis aligned, requiring you to remove both side panels to re align them.

There are a couple of other things that I just can't remember right now. But what it sums up to is, if you are very very handy and you are good at figuring out things, you might be able to use this case. If you are all thumbs and not very knowledgeable, then you will hate this case.

This case took me 10 times longer to build in than any other case I have ever used. Nothing was straight forward about the build, you needed to stop at every point and figure out what you had to do to make it work.

Installing 2 8800gt cards will very tight in this case.

The 680i chipsets are old tech.

I'll stick with the 680i because I'm in Australia and don't fancy having to ship newer technology over. The 680i is fine for me and is all I have available

I'm looking now at the Antec P182 and Thermaltake Armor. I prefer the Antec because it is smaller and much cheaper, yet still bigger than the 900 so it should be able to fit the 8800GT with ease, as I was told the 900 could but whatever...

Is the P182 a good case, it seems to have a good cooling system and from what I can see, appears to be a suitable case.

Thanks for your help,

what is your Samsung optical drive like?

so far so good. it's fast with decent burns. it's the only burner i know that offers 20x burns on dual layers.... although i prefer to use the pioneer to burn dual layers @ 6x or 8x. as for lightscribe i haven't had the chance to use them. don't burn things much anymore since drives are getting cheaper.... and since i don't use the drive much i haven't been able to experiment with hacked firmwares unlike the pioneer.

I did not say that 2 8800gt's would not fit, just that they would be very tight. VERY tight.
