Final decision please help

Alright guys, i am ordering my new video card on MONDAY. (assuming i dont die in the hurricane haha) You may know i am pretty set on the gtx 580, but know i see this thing called the 6970 and it seems like a pretty good deal. Now just so you know what we are dealing with here are my specs.

2500k
4 gigs ram (im probably getting 4 more in a few days)
500g storage
corsair 750w
single 1080p display* this is almost not going to change, no multi monitor or anything like that.

So basically in terms i want to know which is my best choice in terms of longevity and effectiveness at 1080p. Will i ever be able to use the power of the 580 at the res? Also what about driver support and compatibility with my intel processor? What about crossfire once i start to need extra power? I know i will need to upgrade my psu to crossfire either so that's not really a problem. Just any opinion and thoughts would be AWESOME.

Lastly when i say 6970 i am mostly referring to the 2gb lightning version made by msi. (if you have another recommendation all the better.)

580 is the fastest single gpu card, and a good price from what i've been told, but in like a year or so the 580 will prob be closing in on the end of fully maxed settings, mostly depends on the games you wanna play, as each is more and less optimized in the engine. but at this time nothing can max a 580 and the 580 can max everything

So once i start to hit the point where 1 gtx 580 isnt fast enough will another gtx 580 be enough to keep up or would i want to move to the latest generation of cards?

for the price of getting a second gtx 580 it would prob be better to get like a 680 or 780 depending on the prices, i'd just check back then to see where the 580's prices are and where the other new ones prices are to see which'll be best.

at 1080p...the 580 is total overkill, if you want to go that route, id save a little and get a gtx570

+1.

But since you are set upon getting the Galaxy GTX 580, then get the GTX 580 and not the HD6970.
And it will be good for atleast 2 Years.

No way, I have only heard bad things about the 570. And even though the 580 is overkill for 1080p, doesn't that mean it will last longer?

HMmmmmmm, I really have no idea what to do here. I basically have 500 bucks right now, but i still need to upgrade my monitor... So if i get the 570 then i could also get the monitor now. But then if i come across some money i will feel dumb for not getting the 580! Will i ever even be able to use all the power of the gtx580 at 1080p? Will the 570 be able to run skyrim and battlefield 3 all the way up? Will i regret my choice to get the 570, because im sure i wont if i get the 580. I just want to get the most out of my money.

GTX 570 will slice through the BF3 if not bottlenecked by other components.
And also after a year or two the GTX 580 will be used to its full potential.
