finally understand my board!

Well I have been trying to overclock in my bios for about 2 months now with no luck. It seems that the names for FSB, Multiplier and v-core were different on my mobo. Now that I know what they are supposed to be I got a 320 Mhz over clock on my FX-55. I am so happy!
Right now my temps are 30c at idle and 38c at full load. Are these temps acceptable, or what would be average temps? thanks

Under 40C is always good especially on newer model cpus with a lower max temp. But you won't see those temps when ocing for very long. There the stress as well as any additional loads see temps climb as a rule.
 
those temps were after the OC while running prime95 for a little over an hour. Should I run it longer? I now have a zalman 9700led cpu cooler if that makes much of a difference although i had to use the included thermal paste as AS5 is very hard to find here in Korea.
 
You are rather fortunate you weren't running a stock hsf then. :eek: You must have some large case fans or some other way of blasting heated air out of the case to see kept that low when ocing.
 
LOL well it is a little chilly in my room, plus right now my side panel is off getting holes drilled for 2 120mm fans. What would be the temp be when i should start getting worried about causing permanent damage.

PS those temps were verified by easytune 5 is there a better program to monitor temps. Maybe I am getting false readings.
 
The hardware monitor found in the bios setup is the thing to go by like schoning16 mentioned. One thing found most effective when replacing the current board now used here in the old case was the increased air flow seen when swapping that one for a new case. The old case saw board temps at 46-48C idle! The cpu was initially seeing 44-46C idle.

The big problem with the old was one rear and one top 80mm pair of fans. The new case has a 140mm front intake and 120mm rear exhaust and allowed two additional 120mm fans mounted on the side cover. Upon allowing a few days for the initial AS5 bonding the board temp was seen at 31C! The cpu with the new Zalman CNPS9500 saw 33C idle.

Those temps. are fine, easytune does pretty good, you could install PC Wizard to back up the temp. readings if you wanted to.
