Finding intruders on WIFI conection!

Hi

Just bought a WIFI modem last month, I am staying in a student domain and a week ago after recharging my account I have noticed 75 megabyte of data just disappeared after opening 4 “normal web pages” Instantly I have checked the Admin page and I have noticed there are two computers online. Shortly I have contacted ISP and they said they are not allowed to release what information was downloaded!

Just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of dealing with these types of intruders into WIFI please? My password is very strong so they must be professional? How could I hunt them down?

Cheers

Either they know your password, or if they did manage to hack it out, it doesn't matter so much about what password you have, the type of encryption would more likely be the reason they are able to get access. If you are running with WEP, you can crack it fairly easily in a matter of minutes.

Best solution - enable MAC filtering. Only devices that you have added to the list will be able to connect to the network. Disable SSID Broadcast as well so it cannot be seen by your average Joe.

I recommend you change the wireless encryption from WEP to WPA/WPA2, change the default password of your modem

Out of curiosity, what 4 "normal" webpages did you open?

Either they know your password, or if they did manage to hack it out, it doesn't matter so much about what password you have, the type of encryption would more likely be the reason they are able to get access. If you are running with WEP, you can crack it fairly easily in a matter of minutes.

Chances are if they broke a WEP key, even though it's fairly easy and assuming that's the security in use here, or anything else on it for that matter they can find a hidden SSID.

I recommend you change the wireless encryption from WEP to WPA/WPA2, change the default password of your modem

I don't think you said you were using WEP, but if you are, I agree with the above.

75MB is really nothing. Could be background windows updates or virus checker udates.

Is their anything else connected into your wireless router ie printer, smartphone, tablet etc?
