Fire destroyed computers need help figuring out what new ones to get?

Well long story short, my mothers Insurance business and 3 others were destroyed in a fire early this morning.:( Well it turns out my moms office was the best out of them all. She was able to save the files she had in file cabinets and one windows xp computer that i am working on cleaning tonight. Although, the one computer tower that was able to be saved after the fire was done, she does not want to use becasue her insurance will cover the cost of new computers.

Here is my question:

What is a good Windows Vista Business computer that will have lots of memory to hold lots of files and will be fast and reliable? I have a few in mind but she is not looking to buy a computer that will cost a fortune. She had 2 Dell brand computers that were about 2.5 years old but they were still working like they were new.:)

I've got a Dell Optiplex DT model and it's very good, it's quiet and Dell provide a 3 year warranty as standard.

Kill Bill - All you ever mention is macs. If people want windows, they will get a pc. Stop being a fanboy and telling people to "run windows on bootcamp". I have never mentioned a mac because I have never seen someone ask "I need a $2000 non-gaming computer that is good for encoding music"

I'm not saying macs are only good for that, but it gets really annoying when people always suggest macs for people that want vista.

I'm not trying to be a fan boy but from my opinon of me using a mac and comparing it to vista is very different. All I'm saying is if shes in a tight work area and likes room for book and sheets get the 20'' imac or mac mini as the ones you listed are tower and are fugly:P I'm not always saying oh get a mac I'm just saying the macs even mac book pros are better built even if they are not going to be used for mac and being used for windows atleast the mother has the choice of both worlds

An imac is a computer that is connected more than a pc. That's all. She said nothing about space needs. The space is minimally less than a pc. She also said she did not want something expensive.

I call computers that start at $1200 (imac) with a gig of ram, and a 2.0ghz processor expensive.

For $1200, you can get a a dell desktop.. Wait... A dell vostro desktop (yea vostro desktops) come with a faster cpu for $500.. anyways

A vostro desktop will have a 3.0ghz dual core (beats 2.0ghz), 17" moniter, 2gb ram (beats 1), 2 dvd drives (beat 1), 500 gigs (twice as many), AND the nvidia 8800 graphics card - PWNS the mac's, for $1,184. The only "difference" in the mac that beats the pc is the three inch moniter difference. But come on people. Look at the differences.

Don't even get me started on the mac mini either. Starts at $800, but costs over $1540 to get it with 2gb's ram and a moniter alone. The performance between the dell and the mac mini at top specs are horrible for the mac.

YOU. fine be that way but do ya think dell hardware lasts 8 years no Apples do. The upgrades of Operating systems on them can be up to 8 years. I hardly doubt that the dell can last that long and let me correct you

iMac specs:
2.4ghz intel core 2 duo,2gig ram expandable to 4gb,300gb hdd expanable to 1tb,dual slot dvd drive,ATI HD Radeon 2600 Pro 256mb,10.5.2 OS x Leopard Plus 20inch built in monitor with isight with iLife 08,Lovely Design,Compact for $1,299

not being a fan boy but anything is better than hell i mean dell.;)

If it is for a business do not build it, do not buy consumer, buy business class. They come standard with a 3 year warranty and onsite warranty as well, so if anything fails someone can come out and fix it with in a day or so. They are also better built and aren't bloated with tons of crap software you will never use.

Personally, I kind of like the HP business class desktops. I used to support about 7,000 of them at my old job and they are super easy to work on and reliable for the most part.

If you wanted to get a mac that would be good too, as I also use and support Macs. If you wanted to go that route I could help you out a bit and if not that is your choice.

I personally would not use vista, but that is me.

I thought the pc'es use buy come with the bloated.

I have to agree with above and recommend a Dell Vostro Desktop also.

14 Years in and still working, my oldest Dell PC still works flawlessly after 14 years, its only ever been opened up to blow dust out. *Ah, good old Windows NT*.

Also, if Dell computers were not reliable, why would CAT use them as their main machines in offices and laptops?

Their cheap :P and can supply billions of workers but I guess your right, Macs are for schools and offices and media business and stuff. if i remember correctly C.A.T;)

CAT as in Caterpillar use Dell Machines, who is C.A.T?

Edit: Dell Latitudes and Optiplex and Precisions are not cheap, LOL.
