Fire walls

My daughter has recently installed a router on her machine, which, i believe, has it's own firewall...she was trying to download the zone alarm firewall, but it wouldn't allow the set up to continue.message was a n illegal operation had occured and was closing down.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Firewalls dont cancel each other out, or dissallow the creation of a new one.

A routers firewall would be different than the firewall installed on her local machine. For example

The router firewall would clock unwanted activity from OUTSIDE...
The Zonealarm would block unwanted activity from OUTSIDE and the inside.

By inside I mean across the lan, or other local computers also hooked to the router.

There is somthing else blocking the installation. What do you have running in the background? (programs)

ZoneAlarm has fits if you try to install it with Windows Firewall turned on or if you have an Antivirus program running.

Is your daughter running Win98? I ask because the error message you give is a typical message the W98 would produce. Rarely seen in XP. Possibly post the specs of the machine so we can analyse it further.

terii that is a good thought, when i read the problem it wasnt something that i thought XP would do because i have gone throught this alot and had no trouble at all.
