fire wire/i.link the same?

wikipedia and some old threads on here say they are the same, just i.link is what sony calls it. But I looked at my dad's vaio f series and it looked different to me. . .
is the connection the same, or just the technology?

edit: My mind is going all over now. . . What I think I want to do is plug a 6pin male into a 4pin female, but I can't find any cables with a 6pin female end. I THINK that's what I want.

it's like I would need a female end of the top, and a male(I think )of the bottom, but I haven't been able to find anything like that. . .
