Firefox eating up resource

I never had this problem with previous versions of Firefox but 1.5 eats up my computer's memory (1gig) Right now i have two windows open--one school site with a small text file and this window I'm typing this post in--and the memory usage is up to 166,396 k. Sometimes it goes up to around 500 meg with only a couple of windows open. Isn't this a bit odd?
Thanks in advance!

maybe if you use the tabbed browsing instead of multiple windows, it might cut down on some of it?

Hey thanks for quick replies.

Okay. So here I have one window open with two tabs, and mem. usage is at...196,852k.
I don't really see what's causing this. I don't think it's the websites I go to, as mem. usage is always around 150,000k. Also I doubt it's the extentions I have 'cause I only have 4, all of which are pretty popular so if any of them was a resource hog then ppl would have complained about it already.
Any ideas?

i have to use ram booster frequently if using firefox.
opera is better for the memory.
simple and lite, works great on my pentium 2 computer.

I would have to say that for me Firefox 1.5 was a lot better than all of its predecessors. Lately FF has been going ultra slow (i.e. Not Responding). I'm thing of getting more memory for my laptop.

yeah..
extended use in FireFTP gets you to about 200,00KB

Opera is good for less CPU usage, but FF is still better and more coustomizable (sp)
