Hmm well I reset Firefoxes option as advised and that may have improved it (although there is normally a time delay before problems occur) but it still seemed to be worse than Chrome running similar windows.
So... i had a look at what was left in difference, and I notice that firefox has AVG add-ons, AVG secuurity and AVG safe search, anyway I disabled them and that seems to have made marked improvement
Now Chrome actually appears *above* Firefox on the CPU consumption list, although it is running 15 as opposed to Firefox's 5 windows.
It is definately much better now, everything is much less sluggish, more instant,
I am pretty sure that has cyred it (fingers crossed).
AVG has always been a problem, a CPU hog, even before when I installed it it massively slowed down boot up.
What's the point in having an anti-virus which causes more problems than a virus itself?

I would just like to add that my computer has been much better since I made the changes, I think particularly disabling the AVG stuff helped.
When viewing certain sites which had a fair bit of advertising on them or whatever periodically I would hear my computer fan kick in because presumable the CPU was running at a high %age.
That pretty much *never* happens now apart from when I try and stream several fairly high quality video streams at the same time.
