Firefox Issues

I opened firefox this morning, and a box came up complaining about the "default" being already in use. it asked for a new account... but now everytime i open firefox, all my settings are gone, including all my bookmarks!

What can i do to get all my settings back?

Look under "C:\DocumentsandSettings\"user name"\Application Data\Mozilla\FireFox\Profiles\" for the "bookamrks.html" and "bookmarks.bak" files. Copy those to a safe location and try a fresh install of FireFox. Once you have a fresh copy installed you can open copy those back into the folder to see if they reappear. If you double click on the html file a page opens with the links there.

This has happened to me, don't make another account, use default. go into ctrl+alt+delete on PCs (i dont know on macs, its not the ctrl+shift+esc thing though) and click processes, and from there find firefox.exe and end all instances of it. then try running firefox again.

It will never hurt to backup the links that were saved in the boomarks.html file. If the current installation saw some files damaged the reinstallation would insure everything was working properly again. FireFox just like IE 6 goes on fast when reinstalled. That can also prevent a repeat of what you are seeing here.

The task manager can also be brought up by right clicking on the task bar and open the applications tab. You would simply highlight the instances if any one at a time to then close them out with the end task button. If one or more remains locked you would have to log off Windows to see it closed out.

Next time that dialogue comes up, cancel it and open the task manager. Kill any firefox.exe processes. It should work then.
