Firewall, Anti-virus, Anti-spyware, Anti-phishing

Firewire is generally annoying as it blocks web sites and prevents all sort of connections and keeps popping up.
most internet provieres have a firewire included with them

u mean firewall right? firewire is something totally different.

Firewall i would say is necessary, but i wouldn't jsut use the one Windows gives you or some cheap software.

Anti-virus is a must really for me, always need to update definition files and scan prett often to make sure you don't have some crazy virus. if you do get one often times an AV program can delete it before it does any harm.

I don't use "anti-spyware", but i do use Lavasoft's "Ad-Aware" to scan pretty often. it finds bad cookies and small bugs u get from websites and such.

I don't have personal info on my machine and i don't do banking on it either...so anti-phishing isn't really useful. A computer with the above 3 programs probably won't need it...as it should be locked down already.

Well...

Depends! if you are connected to the net on a 24hr basis, you will most certainly need a firewall. When you are not connected you my only need an antivirus. However, if you wanna have a safe computer, you would want to have a firewall, a anti-adware/spyware solution and obviously an antivirus. It is always better to have it and not need it then to need and not have it :))
