my computer does not have a firewire port but i have a camcorder that needs a firewire port to transfer the videos from a tape to the computer. i was going to get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817111714 but then i wanted to make sure if i can plug the product into my computer with the usb but still have the firewire hub working

Yeah, it's just designed to split the USB port into 4 USB and 3 Firewire ports externally. If you have a free PCI slot, and can take out your floppy drive, I'd use this instead:

seems to be a better product, and having those pieces internal makes it a lot cleaner. Plus, I've had some experience with iogear, and it's not very good quality equipment. If you need to do external, I'd look at one of the other external options Newegg provides, you'll be a lot happier.
