First build - 2600k, overclocking, gaming

hello, been lurking around here for a while and finally got around to throwing a decent rig together

Mainly going to be using this for gaming (Skyrim, BF3, Diablo 3, and others)

also looking to overclock

My budget is a flexible $1200 and this is about what I camp up with so far...

I'm think I got the compatibility right but this is my first build and I may have overlooked something.

How does this look? I'm flexible on the price especially if you guys think I skimped on any of the parts and making a change would make a big difference. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated

that isn't the best psu brand, look at these, i went for these cuz of brand and since you had picked a 700w i assumed you may want to get crossfire later on, otherwise say so and i will link some other psu's, but one is normal and the other is modular so you can unplug wires for tideness.

Yes I want to keep the option for crossfire/SLI open for sure, the PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 750W looks like a great improvement over the one I had originally chosen, and the reviews look great

that card also looks decent, I was also checking this one out if i were to go the nvidia route and it looks like a fantastic deal:

thanks for the suggestion i will consider either this one and the P&C that johnnp had suggested over the one i had originally chosen, I guess I was subconsciously cutting corners at the power supply route =/
 
I would switch the RAM to 8gb of Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 1600 because from what I've heard, the Hyper 212+ is a big heatsink and your RAM might not fit.
 
for the ram v heatsink you could grab the sniper series for the same price from g.skill. Also yes the psu he rec'd is a little better, didn't check the amps but it does also have a better efficiency too, so if you can i'd grab it.
 
The p67 extreme4 is sick. I just installed everything and withina few hours I was overclocking. I will NEVER go back to AMD for processors. No AMD processor has been as easy of installation as this. The 2500k installed windows in a few minutes! My 955 be took about an hour.

I am already running this thing completely stable at 4.6ghz using the quick oc button in the bios! It gives you several choices like 4.0, 4.2, 4.4 and so on up to 4.8. It did prime 95 at 4.6 for about an hour and never went over 59 degrees C!

I guess what I am trying to say is that the board is awesome and has a ton of features. Sorry for the rant!

That's great to hear, I actually decided to go with the 2500k as well (this build is mostly for gaming so I don't really need the hyper threading of the 2600k) and get a higher quality video card with the money I saved (gtx 570).

can't wait to throw everything together and give it a test run :good:

next step is a custom liquid loop for the cpu and gpu, then you'd have the perfect system (other than a ssd and can always have more gpus/more expensive gpus)
