First build computer

Well with some funding, I've decided to build a PC to replace this desktop, which is now rather obsolete. Obviously, its my first build, and I'm rather clueless. I've been researching and put together a list of things that would work for the gaming I want to do. Now its kind of in the stage of improving on them and checking for compatibility. (The latter of which I would never trust myself with without seeking outside help, which just happens to be you guys.) Below is a list of some of the products I've been looking at. Recommendations to improve performance or reduce cost are welcome :D

Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254001 ($169.99)

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144151 ($69.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811103010 ($106.99)

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115004 ($188.00)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115003 ($227.00)

Motherboard: Heres where I am not positive of any choices whatsoever. I'd really like some suggestions on good motherboards for gaming uses if possible.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128017 ($104.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130081 ($156.99)

Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220144 ($159.99)

Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143070 ($169.99 or 139.99 with rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150182 ($129.99)

Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148140 ($79.99) or something with similar speed and capacity. I'll probably just end up going to a local PC store and getting one directly anyway.

Dvd drive: Honestly, I know nothing about CD/DVD drives. Reccomendations?

I made this list up quickly with bookmarks I had, so I may be missing something. Say something if I did please :P

edit: Just noticed I forgot a power supply. Ironically another thing im not too sure about.

Ah right. I forgot. Its at about 1000 or so with an estimated cd drive and 8.5% tax (lowest cost choices up there). Id like it not to go over 1300-1500 if possible

With a budget it would effectively be better, but for now, I will try to stay within the price range u gave for each items.

Monitor, I can't help... Case, is a matter of choice...

CPU: both are very good, but if you plan to go for the E6400, I suggest the E6420 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115016 instead Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about which one, if ur on budget, the E6420 will be simply great. You could also consider the E6320 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115015which is also very good for 168.

Motherboard: I don't recommend SLI, its meant for you to spend more money for nothing or almost. The Asus P5B http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131030 is a good choice for a stable mobo. The S3 you suggested isn't bad either, but generally people recommend the DS3

RAM: Since it is your first build, I will assume you aren't looking at overclocking yet. So you could save on the RAM and go for some DDR2-667 instead the DDR2-800 you chose since it will work equally fast, but be cheaper. You could go for some G Skill http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231108 or some Corsair Value Select http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145098 and you'd save quite a bit.

HDD: Your choice is good.

GPU: You chose 2 good DX9 cards, now depending on your budget and your needs, you may want to have a look at different DX10 cards. There is the lower end 8600GT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125061 or the 8600 GTS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130084. You could also go for the pricier 8800 GTS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082. Of course there are also other pricier 8800 cards, but you will probably be happy with those, unless you are willing to spend even more for a GPU.

DVD burner: As for those, Lite-on is usually recommended since it comes with Nero.

PSU: Finally, but not least, its a very important part and it should always be a quality one. The Corsair 520HX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139001 is very recommended. For a little cheaper you can also go for the Antec NeoHe 500 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817103940

Ah well, I tried to play fancy, but I still dunno how.

I was looking into that Xclio case before. I hope you know that it is very big, almost a full tower case. And the fans seem liek they take up a lot of space in width. You should be able to get a case just about as good as that for about the same price that is a tad bit smaller, if you want. However, i kinda like that case and it seems like a good buy if thats what you want. Idk much about the apevia though, although my friend's aunt has the same case....

Are you thinking about overclocking or no? Do you want sli or are you content with one gpu? The DS3 would be an awesome buy. I orderd the same exact board off of newegg just yesterday for 30 dollars more. It dropped so much just overnight!! Take advantage of that if you can...

Also, about the hdd, the samsung spinpoint t 500gbs (one of the best 500gb hard drives) is only 119.99 right now on new egg.

edit: oops. you linked to the s3, not the ds3.

Probably not overclocking. Its my first build so I'm not delving that deep into the computer. And I'm content with one gpu, my gaming needs arent that extensive.

And thanks for the suggestions :D

you might want to look into this gpu:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102022

although i'm not sure if that's what you would actually want. It does have vivo though, which is a really cool feature, although i'm not sure if you would actually use it.

i'd also recomend the gigabyte s3, ds3, or asus p5b. either of those would be pretty good, or even the ds4.

if you're not planning on overclocking the e6600 would probably be best, although as previously stated, get the e6420 instead of the e6400.

lol. nevermind. i dont think im adding anything different than what kilauea said.

Wow, I think I may get exactly what you suggested chupa. Should last a fair while too. Thanks so much.
