First Build for a Budget Gamer

hello! my old laptop just died, so i figured now was as good a time as any to learn how to build a computer.

now, when i say "budget gamer," i mean "wow-player who runs 25-mans consistently and would love to see 40+ fps in a raid with the settings as high up as possible." i know by most definitions wow is by no means a resource hog (sure, i'm interested in crysis, but i just couldn't support it before).

this is what i've come up with so far, and it all SEEMS to be compatible--but i went a little higher in price than i'd planned on!

should i stick with it and consider it a good investment, or can anyone suggest any downgrades to save me a few bucks? are there any incompatibilities i may have overlooked?

I think you could go with your choice of a 4850 instead of a 5770 as you really won't be using the DX11 and you could use the extra framerate. Off the top of my head, I think the Seagate Barracuda 500GB is a little cheaper than the SpinPoint. This one? can i use a "GDDR3" item in unison with the rest of the build? sorry, this is all still very fresh to me.

In my opinion, I would still look at a 5670. Future proofing for dx11 cant hurt, and it has a nice low power consumption. I specifically like Saphire, purely because of its third party cooler.

- Save a few dollars on a cheaper DVD Writer

- Alternative choice to the case you picked here, whatever you like best.

- In my case I would swap out the Motherboard for a Gigabyte

Well, if you're gonna get DX11, you could revert back to that 5770 you thought of, but if you're just a WoW guy, a 4850 is a great choice. I don't see where a 5670 fits in.

i think i'll just go with the 4850--hopefully i'm not just being a cheapo and this is an okay decision :) that in addition to the alternate dvd writer and motherboard that Fatal1tyXx suggested (still undecided on the case, but i'll figure that out in a few minutes).

you guys own. a rare breed to be so helpful.
 
I guess you could get by with that, but it is the 512MB version which isn't a great investment IMO... haven't bought anything under 1GB yet.

I suppose. I am on my first Video Card - it's a 9800 GTX+ and it's only 512 MB version - and I've been rocking MW2 all weekend via the Free Trial @ STEAM.

For a budget gaming system - and at 70 bucks I think the 4850 would do fine and most games the differences would be marginal. If the price were closer - I'd choose the 1GB version.
