First build, getting closer...

OK, after some research and a lot of information from everybody on computer forum, I think I have my build. It will be used for general home use, web surfing, tv tuner, and light video editing. I would really like to hear some feedback before I pull the trigger and order everything. Also, I was wondering if I will need an aftermarket cpu cooling fan? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Woah, that's just very sophisticated, although I could suggest different options at comparatively low prices. It's because I've been researching as hell the past few months to get my own build under the price of 800 (Euros), and I've found some great options; I've also asked around, friends, jealous friends and everyone to get a good round view. And i understand it's hard to pull the trigger, but once you are confident enough and see no other option, go for it.

First of all, I'm against Radeon, but it depends on personal needs. I believe it's like Celeron to Pentium.

Don't you think 650W is too much? You could go for 450W or 500W if you can find something.

GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD4P LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard

I would suggest MSI, because wherever I asked about Gigabyte, they told me to refrain from choosing it and go, as the best option, for MSI motherboards. Good choice on Western Digital. Lastly, on the cooling fan, it depends on the rest of your cooling components. Ask around, cause If you got advise solely from me, you would end up being terribly disappointed. :P By the way, I've also heard good things about Kingston RAMs, have you considered them?

Yeah, you could get cheaper items unless you just wanna buy strictly those.

These are just some for an example, and I'm sure you might could get better deals too. I'm planning to get a Gigabyte just like that one, but I'm going with the AMD version.

Where ever you get your information from you should probably stop going there. There is absolutely nothing wrong with ATI cards or Radeon as you call them. In fact ATI has the most powerful single GPU called the 5870 which will make a GTX 295 cry for mercy. Not only that but ATI has always been cheaper the Nvidia make it a better choice. By the way the 4870 is the best deal on the market and will pretty much destroy any game.

A 650w PSU is not to much actually I wouldn't trust anything under a 500w from a good name brand to power that rig. It is always a good choice to get the biggest and best power supply you can. That way you leave room for upgrade. If he decides to upgrade to a 5870 then he can with that 650w PSU.

Gigabyte is one of the best motherboard manufactures around. MSI, Gigabyte, and ASUS are the top three. Most people prefer Gigabyte or ASUS because they have more popularity.

Nice you just save him about $25 on his build but pretty much destroyed his computer. Only by sacrificing performance I have never trusted Ultra PSU I have had way to many fail on me. Why would you recommend a Seagate HDD over a western digital when the western digital is better quality. Good job on the GPU though the 4870's with the new coolers look nice and that one has a good price.

Any other thoughts/input?

You build is pretty much perfect are you going to get a CPU cooler or just use Stock for now. If you can pick a different case the CM Elite Series is pretty flimsy and I wouldn't put nice components like that in it.

Hmm.. thats a nice build you got going there, but if you want my two cents i'd say get atleast a 10k rpm hard drive if not faster. Your pc is going to bottleneck at that big slow hard drive :P

Exaggerated.

The two cards are evenly matched really. Far from "crying for mercy".

But, you can't argue the price...

Yea I might of exaggerated a little bit.

Not true very rarely will a hard drive bottle neck a computer.

Actually thats not true!! A hard Drive is the single biggest Bottleneck on a computer.

Yes but it is not going to make your computer slower. Yes a better hard drive will give you better boot time and better load times. It's not going to give you better fps in games or make you internet faster. It is basically pointless imo. If you can't wait that 1min of your compute to boot then go ahead and and wast your money. Not haveing a $300 hard drive is not going to make you computer slow.
