First Build: Initial Boot-up Help

Hi,

I have completed the hardware installation on my first computer. It boots up and I can enter BIOS. I selected the CD-drive as my primary boot-up device since I don't have a floppy drive.

I put the Windows XP CD in, but it just blinks a cursor and nothing starts. The CD begins to turn as if it is about to start, but nothing happens.

Do I need to load something else before it will load Windows?

Thanks for any info.

I got Windows installed. It only boots up when one CD-drive is hooked up? Even now that Windows is installed, it will not load it unless I unhook one of the two CD drives.

I have the IDE going from the secondary slot on the motherboard to one CD drive and then the next. It's a 1 plug to 2 plug IDE cable.

On the back of each CD-ROM drive you will find a jumper with three settings-master, slave, cable select. You have to change the jumpers on the drives so that one is a master and one is a slave.

Thanks! Works fine.

I'm using Everest Home Edition and my CPU temp sits at 26C. I'm using an Athlon 3200, Asus A8N5X, and an Antec TX640B.

Is this right? The house temperature is only 2-3 degrees below this.
