First build - need a hand with compatibility

Do the following components look like they're going to play well together? I've tried to do my homework, but being new to building a computer, it's all a bit overwhelming.

Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thx

Thanks - I'll look into those items. Are these items better qual., or primarily a preference for AMD over Intel?

Mobo - $109 to $85 is a bit of a savings (-$24)
Processor - $168 to $169 is a wash (+$1)
Memory - $100 to $96 is also a wash (-$4)

total svgs. $27

This couldn't be what Daisymtc was referring to, could it?

BTW, this isn't going to be a gaming machine - primarily a fast household PC

Socket 775 is a dead end.

If its just going to be a household setup.
Keep the board in my link and memory and go for one of these processor.

Thanks for your advice.

I jumped to a 500 Gb HD, and went with the processor you recommended.

Should be good to go.

thanks

Happy T-day

Going with Windows OS.

With the 720 processor and the board I showed you. Even though your not gaming on it you can try to unlock the 4th. core on it.

Go into the bios enable ACC and set the cores to Auto or All, save and exit. If your lucky it will turn into a X4, plus the 720 has the full 6 MB. of L3 cache. End up with a good X4 for the price of a X3. If it doesnt work just disable ACC, nothing lost.

You can get Vista for 90 bucks. With a Free upgrade to Windows 7

That will be a pretty good setup. You could even go lower on the CPU,(60 to 70) dollar range but I believe in a year or two you would have wished you spent the extra 30/40 bucks on the Phenom II 720.
